How To Make Drip Coffee
The Patience Coffee Drip Coffee Guide
Recipe: (Standard Home Brewer)
Coffee: 60g
Water: 960g (1:16 ratio)
Grind: Medium (similar to granulated sugar)
Water Temperature: 200°F / 93–94°C (most brewers heat automatically)
Yield: About 4 cups
To adjust batch size, maintain a 1:16 ratio — 1g coffee for every 16g water.
Step 1: Choose Your Coffee
Use freshly roasted, freshly ground coffee.
Drip brewers highlight balance, making medium roasts or approachable blends ideal.
Grind size matters: too fine will cause bitterness; too coarse will produce a weak cup.
Step 2: Prepare the Brewer
Place a paper filter in the brew basket.
Rinse the filter thoroughly with hot water to remove paper taste and preheat the carafe.
Empty the rinse water before brewing.
Step 3: Weigh and Grind
Measure 60g of coffee and grind to a medium texture (between pour-over and coarse).
Add the grounds to the filter and gently shake to level the coffee bed.
Step 4: Add Water and Start Brew
Pour 960g of water into the brewer’s reservoir.
Start the brew cycle.
If your brewer has a pre-infusion or “bloom” feature, use it to allow gases to escape before full brewing begins.
Let the brew complete without interruption.
Step 5: Wait and Watch
Brewing should take about 5–6 minutes total.
If it brews too fast, grind finer next time.
If it brews too slow, grind coarser.
Step 6: Swirl and Serve
When the brew finishes, gently swirl the carafe to ensure even flavor distribution.
Serve immediately for the best flavor.
Avoid letting the coffee sit on a hot plate for long periods, as it can develop bitterness.
Step 7: Taste and Adjust
Sour or thin cup: grind finer or slightly increase the coffee dose.
Bitter or harsh cup: grind coarser or use slightly less coffee.
Lacking clarity: rinse the filter more thoroughly or try a different brand.
